Leaving Kenya

Well, my time in Kenya is (nearly) over. This week has been good - more surgeries and more time spent in the ward with the patients and nurses. I'm drawing a blank for specific stories, apologies, but it was such a good week. I am going to miss all of the staff at Tawfiq and Caris very much, as well as everyone on our team. I wish I could work with them back at home, too. I hope very much that I can come back on this trip next year.

Thursday was our last official day at Tawfiq and most of our group left to go back home yesterday. The rest of us finished things off at the hospital and packed everything up to go home. We spent the afternoon just hanging out at the hotel and being lazy. This morning we left Malindi at 940 to get to Nairobi at 1040. Our next flight is tonight at 1145 headed to London... Yes, that is a 13 hour layover. Hutton and I had hoped to visit some of our friends who are working at a camp outside of Nairobi called Blue Sky... Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Now we are just sitting in the Nairobi airport hoping the time passes fairly quickly. We found some $2 playing cards so that's what we will be doing for the next several hits.

Buuuut, as sad as I am to be leaving Kenya, I am so excited for the next part of the trip!! I told some of y'all that I would post our itinerary on here, so that's what I'll do.

June 17 - arrive in London and head to Oxford to meet up with the rest of the group
June 18 - back to London really late then to Cork
June 19 - heading to Cork, Ireland
June 20 - leave Cork pretty late for London
June 21 - leave London early that morning for Frankfurt, Germany then take a train to Heidelburg
June 23 - train back to Frankfurt and fly out to Vienna, Austria
June 25 - fly to Rome
June 26 - train to Cinque Terre, Italy
June 28 - train back to Rome and fly to Athens, Greece
July 1 - leave Athens and go back to Rome
July 2 - leave Rome for Valencia, Spain
July 5 - leave Valencia and make our way back to London
July 7 - leave London to head back to the States.

I'm out of breath just typing that... It's going to be so great and absolutely exhausting.

I'll keep you updated as we find wifi!
